We Five

A&M was started waaaaay back in 2013 by Adam Zolis and David Adams. From humble beginnings at 96 Spadina with an empty office, no clients and a couple of borrowed desks, the future looked bright… from what we could see through the only window in the studio looking into an alleyway.

500 brand identities. 55 websites. 5000 cups of coffee. These stats are made up, but you get the point. We’ve been busy. A&M turned 5 this year, and it’s been a wild ride. When we started A&M it was an opportunity for us to do good work with good people who appreciate the value of design, and we’ve managed to stay true to that vision.

Bucking traditional methods of ensuring our future’s success, A&M was born without any clients — a clean slate, if you will. However, what was more important was that we believed in ourselves, that we could do it. Funny enough, while we were still negotiating the lease and fine-tuning what we were all about, a client came a-knockin’. It wasn’t a large project, but it was a great client and it was just the start we needed. We’ll forever be grateful.

As we slide into our 5th year we can’t help but be optimistic. We’ve got a group of 6 amazing people (including me) working together. Projects continue to be fun and exciting, and many of the problems that we’re tasked with solving are becoming more and more complex. A blessing and a curse one might say! Many of our partners and clients have become trusted friends, and we’re looking forward to collaborating with them for years to come

Holy Moly! Thanks to everyone who played a part in making this thing called Art & Mechanical happen. We couldn’t have done it without you and you’ll always be in our hearts as we look forward to the anniversaries yet to come.
