The Abbott is a local coffee shop in Parkdale. As a reference to the ground-breaking residents in old Parkdale, the name of the shop is in homage to Anderson Rufin Abbott, the first Afro Canadian Doctor.

As a man who wore many hats, Abbott wrote poetry, served in public office as well as in the union army to overcome slavery in the US. A&M adopted a variety of icons, symbols, and phrases to encapsulate this man and the time he existed in Parkdale.
